The role & about the client: ITS Building People are recruiting on behalf of a well-established, growing engineering consultancy based in Southampton, who are looking to appoint a Civil Engineer to join their experienced team.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a close-knit consultancy with an outstanding reputation for delivering high-quality Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering and Building Design solutions across the South.

Unlike larger consultancies, you’ll have the opportunity to work closely with senior engineers and directors, taking ownership of projects from concept through to completion. The business prides itself on providing a collaborative environment where engineers are encouraged to develop professionally, contribute ideas and build long-term careers.

The consultancy works across a diverse portfolio of projects including residential, commercial, education, industrial and mixed-use developments, offering genuine variety and technical challenge.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Deliver civil engineering designs from initial concept through to construction.
  • Prepare drainage strategies, highway layouts and infrastructure designs.
  • Produce technical drawings, calculations and reports using industry-standard software.
  • Liaise with clients, architects, local authorities and multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Attend project and design meetings, providing technical advice where required.
  • Ensure designs comply with current regulations, industry standards and client requirements.
  • Support the delivery of multiple projects, ensuring quality, programme and commercial objectives are achieved.
  • Contribute to the continued growth and success of the consultancy through excellent client service and technical delivery.

The ideal candidate will have/be:

  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience working within a UK engineering consultancy.
  • Good knowledge of highways, drainage and infrastructure design.
  • Experience using Civil 3D, AutoCAD and relevant design software.
  • A strong understanding of UK design standards and current legislation.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • A proactive approach with the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Working towards Incorporated or Chartered status (desirable but not essential).
