The Role & About the Client

ITS Building People are currently recruiting for an experienced Quantity Surveyor / Estimator on behalf of an established and successful national property maintenance and refurbishment contractor based in Southampton. The company provides quality and affordable property maintenance services to a wide range of public and private sector clients, managing all types of buildings across a variety of construction types and uses. This is an excellent opportunity to join an established business with a strong pipeline of work and a diverse client base, while benefiting from the resources of a national organisation with a strong local presence.

Key Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

• Preparing accurate estimates and tenders from drawings, specifications and schedules.
• Reviewing scopes of works and identifying project requirements.
• Carrying out material and labour take-offs.
• Obtaining and analysing quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
• Preparing competitive tender submissions.
• Identifying commercial risks, exclusions and opportunities.
• Liaising with clients to clarify specifications and requirements.
• Working closely with Contracts Managers and operational teams.
• Assisting with project budgets and cost control.
• Preparing valuations, variations and final accounts.
• Monitoring project costs against agreed budgets.
• Negotiating with subcontractors and suppliers.
• Maintaining accurate commercial records.
• Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and supply chain partners.
• Managing multiple tenders and deadlines effectively.
• Ideally, experience pricing painting tenders would be beneficial, but this is not essential.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

• Previous experience working as a Quantity Surveyor, Estimator or similar commercial professional.
• Experience within property maintenance, refurbishment, construction or a related environment.
• Strong understanding of construction and refurbishment costs.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
• Experience producing estimates and tenders.
• Strong subcontractor and supplier negotiation skills.
• Good commercial awareness and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and tenders while meeting deadlines.
• Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel.
• Full understanding of construction processes and building works.
• Experience within property maintenance, planned maintenance, refurbishment, social housing, local authority, commercial property, residential, main contracting or facilities management would be beneficial.
