Electrician
Position good to knows
You will be working for a driven and forward-thinking contractor who have multiple contracts with the Prison service and their supporting facility providers. Here they carry out planned preventative maintenance, daily repairs and maintenance, emergency repair work, refurbishment and minor construction work. And due to increased contract wins they are looking for three electricians to carry out gear tray replacements in a secure facility close to Rochester.
Important good to knows
- Due to the nature of the facility, you will need to pass a security and criminal record check
- The facility is a secure unit and therefore personal items (mobile phones) will not be allowed past security checks daily
- There will be a key holder in each team and as a team you will be responsible for the safe movement, use, storage and removal of a work tool chest and required materials to complete set works
- The facility could be challenging environment for some due to it’s secure nature and security checks, so you must be happy working in and around a secure facility which houses inmates
Key elements of the role and your responsibilities
- Replace gear trays in internal and external light fittings across the prison estate
- Conduct isolation and reinstatement of electrical circuits safely
- Carry out routine electrical testing where required
- Ensure all works are completed in compliance with current electrical regulations (BS7671)
- Maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used, and time taken
- Work in coordination with prison maintenance and security staff
- Follow all site rules and procedures related to security, safety, and conduct
- Report defects, delays, or access issues promptly
- Maintain safe working practices at all times and use appropriate PPE
- Ensure tools and materials are accounted for at all times (tool checks will be mandatory)

- We’re looking for candidates who are reliable, technically strong, and take pride in delivering high-quality work with a tenant-focused attitude
- Adhere to all relevant health and safety regulations, including BS 7671 and internal policies, while ensuring appropriate PPE and tools are used at all times
What you need to bring to the role as the successful applicant to the role
- NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent (e.g., City & Guilds 2365/2357)
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671)
- ECS/CSCS Card (desirable)
- City & Guilds 2391 or equivalent in Testing & Inspection would be an advantage but not a deal breaker
